I have listen that having extra RAM in the machine provide some more output and exploitation of the machine. For example if you are using the system to download and save pictures omly so you dont need to provide any extra memory to your machine at all in case it has already 500 or 512 megabyte of RAM. But its not possible that you just use the system to save pictures. Obviously you might surf websites, download some data, check E-mails, sending messages, writing data (in case you have installed microsoft office) and many more work we expect from our computer.
If you are working on your computer for all those outputs, so no doubt you need to install extra memory as 500 megabytes is not enough to handle such amount of data. It will also help to update your computer if you have planned to keep that machine upto unknown period of time. Installing extra RAM in your system will always provide you profit anyway.
You should also check for that how much RAM your machine may handle.
Generally all kinds of newer machines can handle about 1-8 GB of RAM.
But at last it is also a fact to think that why to think about all this at all if things are working properly. If you are not facing any problem with the amount of your RAM you have recently, you need not to take any tension to install additional memory without any reason.
Still its a good decision to update your machine and enjoy its maximum as well, even I am planning to buy new machines this time having maximum of their RAM already.
