Conclusion On Memory RAM - RAM and memory module, both indicates the memory of computer but in different ways.
I read an article on memory of the computer. I read two different words RAM and memory modules. Previously I thought that both the words are same to denote the memory of the computer but later I knew that perhaps both are different words. I want to know what is the difference between both of them.
RAM is no doubt Random Access Memory of the computer in which data lies when it is being used and memory module is memory where data lies when it is being used. It means both are same things still there is some difference between both the memories. Inspite of being different both of them are inter-related together and can be inter-changed.
If your computer is installed with 2GB of memory means it might have been consisted of one or more memory modules such as memory module of 2 GB or memory modules of 1 GB or even if your computer is installed with 2GB of memory means it might have been consisted of one or more memory modules such as memory module of 2 GB or memory modules of 1 GB or even 4 to 512 MBs. It means they reside in memory modules and together build the RAM.
Actually memory modules are physical cards consisting of one or more RAM chips. They lies over the red and yellow coloured slots, if you have ever seen opening your computer.
It means the RAM of your computer is exactly consisted of variety of memory modules having various GBs or MBs depending on the amount of RAM you have installed in your computer.
The advantage of memory modules is that you can just replace your memory modules to those having higher capacity in order to add some extra RAM to your computer.
So in this way you can have the advantage of memory modules to add some extra RAM on your computer but the condition is you should leave some chances for replacing or adding some extra memory modules on your computer. As I did, in my computer. I have installed some extra RAM by just replacing the older memory modules from those having higher MBs within them.
