Conclusion On Format hard drive - Generally it does not matter to format a new drive and make it’s partitions again but it is possible to prform by using disk manager which is built-in windows.
I am running windows XP in my HP computer. I bought a external drive with 500 MB capacity and I am interested to format it as well as making it's partition again. Can I have the way how to format and repartition my external hard drive? Which program I require to apply for this purpose?
Almost all the external hard drives possess a default configuration regarding it's partition and tehy hace a single partition of whole capacity. If you are interested to repartition th driv it is not a difficult job. You can do it yourself and the tools required would be available to you by windows only. Whenever you buy a new external hard drive and insert it in your computer, you should follow the steps given below:-
- You just need to plug the drive in your computer, wait for windows detect the new drive inserted and proof that an another drive is inserted in your computer to use. This is what you have do to simply insert and use your new hard drive in your system.
- If you want to repartition the hard drive click on My computer and then select manage. An application window will be opened having an optiondisk management. Click on it and a window will open to show you the current condition of partitions of your hard drive.
- Now if you want to remove the existing partition of the hard drive you need to right click in the lower pane on the drive and make sure for deleting the existing condition i drive because this will delete everything in the drive. You have to select The option ‘Delete partition’ for the deletion of current partitions.
- Now to make new partition again right click in the lower pane of the hard drive and this time you will get an option ‘new partition’. Select this option and set your new partitions in your hard drive. You will be asked by the list to select the capacity of each partition and the partitions will be seen as C:, D:, E: etc.
To format the drive I want to remind that it will delete everything in the drive and to format the drive I right click over the drive to be formatted and press ok to format the drive.
I also suggest that once the hard drive has been setup in a particular configuration regarding it’s partitioning there is no further need to repartition it or formatting without any worthy reason. Still it depends on my choice and requirement according to the situation.
