I want to know about the file shredder software regarding their efficiency and influence on flash drives. I tried to shred few of my files but I was able to recover them. How it was possible? I want to know that does these shredded softwares really work for flash files? Should I use them for hard disk device only?
Shreding files means secure deleting of files to be recovered. File shredder are actually softwares which are capable to delete the subjected files in the way that they would not be able to be recovered ever. But in the case you described above it’s really surprising that the files were recovered. It’s not worthy to apply the file shredder over the surface of flash drive while it is suitable for hard disk drive. - The data of the file is not overwitten during the deletion of file.
- Anyway if the data is overwritten on magnetic media it might be recovered by usin advance forensic tools.
What file shredder does to delete the file exactly is that it overwrites the data over and over randomly many times in order to make the actual previous data non-recoverabe. In magnetic material its enough to overwrite the data moe than once to leave the file in unrecoverable stage.
Now you can go for thinking that overwriting the data again and again will work for the secured deleting of files i flash drive but it will actually shorten the life and utility of your device.
So I will just suggest you to use appropriate suitable secure deleting tool for the deletion of files in flash files.
