Conclusion On Power shutting down - We all are instructed manually to shut down the windows before turning of the computer but if the power goes while shutting the windows down , it might cause serious loss to the system if it is not protected.
It happened to me once or twice that I am shutting down the windows in order to turn off the computer but immediately the power goes from the household power outage. I discussed the matter with my friends and they indicated me for the negative effects of this happening. I want to know that what kind of problems and irregularities I might face if I turn off the computer without shutting the windows down? Can it adversly effect to the hardware also?
Shutting down windows properly before turning the computer off is really an important thing. If you dont do so it can cause the corruption of data, data loss and file related errors. But if you turns the power off directly in eventual conditions it might not cause that much harm to your system. Actually all the data you want to be written in your disk is kept in RAM of your system. During shutting down of the computer this data is being flushed out to the hard-drive. Powerin gthe system off in this duration thus cause the corruption of files which are partially written to the disk.
But the matter is somewhat different in the case o house-hold power gone. Look how-
The house-hold power might ‘blink’ or ‘brown out’ or ‘surge’ before going. ‘Brown out’ is a conidition in which voltage in the line fall goes lower than 120 volts while ‘surging’ is the situation in which voltage goes higher than 120 volts. All these conditions can damage the cheap sensitive equipment. Your computer might cope-up with the sudden change or might not, on the basis of it’s capability to bear the power out. To inhibit the damage of your machine in this way, you can utilize the following ways to keep your computer protected-
- You can provide your machine with surge protector to cleanly turn off the power in case of ‘surge’.
- UPSs i.e. Uninterruptable Power Supplies can be used to supply the back-up for sometime after power goes off.
- Laptops has no problem as they already contains ‘power bricks’
- In case you are using UPS make sure that your modem, router and wireless access points all are connected to the UPS if you are in local area network.
I dont have any reason not to use surge protector still I am getting the solution of my problem by using UPS, a huge battery which can provide back-up for sometime to save your data or to shut down the windows properly if power goes unexpectedly.
